A Brief History of Hilltribes in Northern Thailand.
*The Karen Padong tribe that are in Thailand originally came from Myanmar. They are considered as aliens by Thai Government.
*The Palong tribe call themselves Palong dang and Palong doom. The Palong probably originated in Burma Shan State. Where now the largest number of Palong live in Chiangrai and Chiangmai.
*The Lisu tribe call themselves Lisu, but Thai call them Lisaw. Settlement have spread into Chiangmai, where now the largest Lisu live. But first Lisu settlement was at Doi Chang in Chiangrai Province.
*The Akha tribe call themselves Akha. The Shan
name for the group is Kaw, and the Thai call them E Kaw. Akha
settlements have remained concentrated north of the KOK River
in Chiangrai Province.
